Whale watching
Albany is renowned for its spectacular whale-watching opportunities. From June to October, southern right and humpback whales can be seen along the coastline, providing an unforgettable experience for nature lovers. Alternatively, step inside Albany’s Historic Whaling Station to explore a fully restored whaling ship and former processing factory and see the giant blue whale skeleton.

Explore our rugged coast
Torndirrup National Park is home to some of Albany’s most famous natural attractions: The Gap, Natural Bridge and the Blowholes. At The Gap, you can step onto a viewing platform suspended 40 metres above sea level and watch as powerful waves crash against the rocks below. From any spot on this magnificent granite formation, you’ll be treated to stunning views of the Southern Ocean, Bald Head, and West Cape Howe.

Hit a hiking Trail
Albany is home to some breathtaking walking trails. One of the more challenging hikes is the Bald Head Walk Trail, located in Torndirrup National Park, just a short drive from town. Prior bushwalking experience is recommended, but the rewards are worth it, with stunning views over the Southern Ocean and King George Sound. For an easier walk with spectacular coastal views, try the Albany Windfarm loop, which weaves among wind turbines and connects to the Bibbulmun Track.

Board the Brig Amity
The Brig Amity, built in 1975, is a full-scale replica of the ship that brought the first European settlers to Western Australia. Part of the Museum of the Great Southern and situated on the foreshore of Princess Royal Harbour, it is located just a few hundred meters from the spot where Major Edmund Lockyer and his crew of 45 landed in 1826, the brig offers a fun and educational experience for the whole family. Children will love exploring the lower decks, while adults can enjoy learning about the ship’s rich history.
